Who We Are
Mannaz Rising Kindred is an Ásatrú religious, charitable, and educational organization dedicated to serving and supporting incarcerated Ásatrú. Originally established within the prison industrial complex of the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) on April 24, 2024, our Kindred was built on a foundation of mutual respect, unity, and shared ancestral faith.
We operate as a community of spiritual kin who fellowship together through all hardships. Affiliated with the Ásatrú Alliance, Mannaz Rising Kindred works to ensure that no member-whether walking the path inside facility walls or outside in the community-navigates their spiritual journey alone.
Our Mission
Our core mission is to empower incarcerated practitioners of Ásatrú, supporting their spiritual growth, protecting their religious rights, and building pathways for successful re-entry into society. We bridge the gap between members behind physical walls and the broader Heathen community, grounding our practice in the values of Honor, Lore, and Kinship.
What We Do
We provide structural, educational, and spiritual resources tailored to the needs of incarcerated Heathens and their families:
- Spiritual & Educational Support: Facilitating study groups, providing lore and educational resources, and offering Gothi certification programs.
- Prisoner Religious Rights Advocacy: Safeguarding the rights of Ásatrú practitioners within correctional facilities.
- Community & Outreach: Hosting volunteers inside facilities, sponsoring traditional feasts (blótar), and maintaining consistent email and written correspondence.
- Re-Entry & Integration: Offering mentorship and support to aid members in transitioning successfully back into their communities.
- Publications: Publishing our monthly newsletter, The Shield, to share lore, spiritual teachings, and kindred updates across physical boundaries.
The Meaning of “Mannaz”
In the Elder Futhark, Mannaz is the rune of humanity, self-realization, and social order. It represents the individual integrated within the community, reminding us that while each person brings unique strength, our collective power is multiplied when we stand together as kin. “Mannaz Rising” symbolizes the elevation of the individual through ancestral wisdom, self-realization, and community support.

FAQs
How do I become a member of Mannaz Rising Kindred?
We have a minimum six month vetting process, which can be extended, to make sure that we are compatible. During this period you’ll be an Apprentice and a mentor will help guide you in the way of our traditions.
Do I have to pay a membership fee?
No, we do not collect any dues; however, we do expect all members and apprentices to contribute in some fashion. The form of your contribution can manifest as creatively as you can think, as long as it’s in a positive light that contributes to Mannaz Rising and the welfare of Ásatrú as a whole.
I’d like to meet, how can I do that?
We have a virtual study group every Sunday (1:00 pm-2:00 pm). Once a quarter we open our virtual groups to the public. As of right now none of our in person events are open to the public.
What do I receive in becoming a member?
You will receive, The Shield, our monthly newsletter free, invites to all our virtual and in-person meets, and access to the larger Ásatrú Alliance community through our kinship.
